The wins may not be coming in yet, but Ryerson’s new women’s hockey team is working hard with an eye towards future glory.
Having just finished its second season, the team is still a Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) probationary team and it has one season to go before it can compete against other universities. Until then, the team is getting ready to be a contender against other universities.
“It’s not something that you can just do overnight,” said Stephanie White, the team’s coach. White led Canada's National Women’s Under-18 team this year to a second place finish against the U.S., along with coaching her first season for Ryerson.

Ryerson will soon be home to a new athletics facility, after students voted Yes last week to a mandatory  $126 fee hike to support its construction and maintenance.

“I am thrilled with the results of the referendum,” president Sheldon Levy said. “I can't wait to start working with students on ideas and plans for the new facility. Ryerson students deserve the best, and I want to ensure that they have lots of input and the facility meets their needs.”

Of the 32,738 full-time and part-time Ryerson students eligible to vote, 4,754 hit the polls.

The annual interuniversity sports awards celebration is the only awards banquet that has run for more than 60 years.
Karen Hood-Deshon, manager of interuniversity sports, says she’s really excited about the players’ accomplishments.
“It’s an opportunity for each team to regroup and celebrate not only their success but everybody’s success in interuniversity sports,” Hood-Deshon said.
