There are no guarantees the Ryerson Students’ Union leadership will use any of the suggestions published in a controversial Deloitte audit last week, despite the fact it highlighted several threats that could “jeopardize the long-term future” of the RSU.

 

» Dental plan debate

Disagreements and accusations about mismanaged funds obtained through the health and dental plan are flying following a recently released RSU audit.
Deloitte & Touche LLP  put out recommendations following its audit of the Ryerson Students' Union Members' Health and Dental Plan, as well as RSU election procedures last week. Among the results of the $85,000 audit was the recommendation that the RSU keep better records of the money owed to students.

For years, Ryerson’s school of disability studies has fought to prove that institutionalizing those with intellectual disabilities is wrong.
By speaking at conferences, contributing research, and teaching students about social inclusion, the program’s faculty members have been activists in urging the government to close these institutions.
Finally, the school’s hard work has come to fruition, while demonstrating that universities can influence government policy. 

 

» Surge in top female earners at Ryerson

The gender gap between highest-earning faculty at Ryerson is closing.
Data released last month through the public sector disclosure act of 2009 states that women make up about 42 per cent of faculty earning at least $100,000 per year. This is up compared to 35 per cent two years ago.
Women comprise 53 per cent of the top 30 earners, consisting mostly of administrative, executive and chair positions.
