Jill Clark decided she didn’t want to sit around and not have a career anymore. She wanted to do something. That thing came in the form of twentysomethingtv.com.
Think The View meets Sex and the City, where Clark and her co-stars Stacey Prieur, Samantha Crowther, April Morgan, Katie Coristine and Sabrina Taylor go around different venues in Toronto and discuss everything from cheating, 20 vs. 30, strong women, money and status, and sexual liberation to name a few. Clark admits that with topics like that, they are definitely racier than The View.
Clark and the rest of the girls get together once a month, and shoot five different episodes on pre-selected topics. The 20 minute episode is aired weekly. The girls are friends on and off the air, but as Clark’s co-star Prieur says, it’s a good debate between all the different girls with their different personalities.
When Clark met Brett Heard of Lucky Friday Productions, she says the stars were aligned and twentysomethingtv.com was born. While Clark was originally going to propose the show to a network, Heard sold Clark on going online. As he explains it, “we are right now at the crossroads of television changing forever. The playing field has been leveled.” He says online is a great place to be. “Jill is the perfect example of this, she is the poster child where you can have a concept, have the right connections ,and go out there and create a reality as opposed to pitching things and hoping someone can fit you into the right time slot at the right time.”
Twentysomethingtv.com has been running for 14 months and has already received 2 million hits. Clark eats, breathes and dreams twentysomethingtv.com. Facebook even kicked Clark off the site for a day because she was promoting the site too much.
Everyone has a different perspective that they can lend to the show, says Clark of her cast. As Clark explains it, “Stacy’s the curvy one with the personality, Sabrina is the young one, I’m the host, Katie is the conservative one and Samantha is the vixen."
While the show is for women, males also flock to get the inside scoop. “ It’s the anonymous way of getting information without getting kicked in the junk,” says Taylor.
“People relate to us because we put our struggles out there,” says Clark. And this is one of the reasons that Clark says she feels successful with what she has right now.
“Another version of success is portraying positive role models,” says Prieur. She also passionately explains, “we’re real and give real opinions.” She gives this advice to young ladies everywhere, “be an independent woman, think your own thoughts, don’t go [out] with a guy who’s bad for you, and listen to your friends.”
The girls of twentysomethingtv.com aren’t just savvy chatterboxes, they also want to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. They will be holding the first annual “Breast Obsessed” event in support of breast cancer research and awareness. The event is happening on Friday, January 25, at 9 p.m. at 6 Degrees nightclub with great performers coming out in support.
