Candidates answer students' questions at Oakham House on Sept. 19, 2007. 

Candidates from the five parties in the Toronto Centre riding, where Ryerson University is located, gathered at Oakham House on Wednesday, Sept. 19 to discuss issues that matter to students.

Here are the candidates. Click on the party for their platform:

Johan Boyden, Communist;
Sandra Gonzalez, New Democrat;
Mike McLean, Green;
George Smitherman, Liberal (the incumbent); and
Pamela Taylor, Progressive Conservative.

Here are the main issues that were covered during the debate:

The debate captivated a crowded room.

Tuition fee freeze;
Eliminating ancillary fees in colleges and universities;
Affordable Transit for students;
Increase in minimum wage;
Affordable housing in Toronto;
Global warming;
Concern over cuts in health services;
Increasing student debt MMP;
Election system Funding to religious schools.
